The EHN ADULT SCHOLARSHIP application (for students aged 19 +) is now available! The deadline will be October 21, 2020


The purpose of the Elgin Hispanic Network (EHN) Adult / Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Program is to assist an adult - over the age 19 and up to age 65 - of Hispanic heritage who is pursuing an undergraduate college education or trade school curriculum. This scholarship of up to $1500 will be awarded in November of 2020.  Award decisions are made by the EHN Board of Directors based on the recommendations of the EHN Scholarship Committee, which consists of volunteers from the community. 

EHN awards are based upon the applicant’s:

▪ Financial need

▪ Demonstration of bilingualism and biculturalism will be considered

▪ Involvement within and on behalf of the Hispanic community

▪ Description of career goals

Finalists may be asked to participate in a brief interview, at which time proof of income and tax returns may need to be provided. DACA and other non-documented individuals are encouraged to apply. The selected finalist will be requested (but not required) to provide a signed release for a photograph and video for the EHN website/Facebook page.

Note:  The scholarship check is only mailed directly to the school at which the adult student finalist is enrolled OR to the bank where the adult student finalist may have accrued student loans.

Eligible candidates must:

Be over age 19 at time of application AND be a resident of Elgin AND of Hispanic heritage

Be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school and in good academic standing (in-person or online classes).

Be available to attend the EHN Thanksgiving event on November 18, 2020 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm (may be done virtually).

Candidates who are NOT eligible to apply for this scholarship include:

  • ·       Immediate family members of 2020 EHN Board members and the Scholarship Committee members
  • ·       Those who have received the EHN Adult Scholarship in the last three years.
  • ·       Candidates who intend to use scholarship dollars at a for-profit institution or for an institution that is headquartered outside of the United States.

Submission Requirements

All items in the application checklist can be submitted electronically on or before the October 21st deadline. Incomplete and late submissions will not be considered.

Toward this end, EHN awards up to three $1,500 scholarships to continuing full-time high school students of Hispanic heritage. Award decisions are made by the EHN Board of Directors based on the recommendations of the EHN Scholarship Committee, which consists of volunteers from the community.

EHN awards are based upon the applicant’s:

▪ Academic performance

▪ Extracurricular activities

▪ Financial need

▪ Community involvement within and on behalf of the Hispanic community

▪ Demonstration of bilingualism and biculturalism will be considered

▪ Description of career goals
